IoT Innovation Review & Roundtable on Logistics

IoT Innovation Review & Roundtable on Logistics

The IoT Forum August Member meeting is focused on discovering innovation, exchanging knowledge, growing professional networks, and above all building partnerships across the entire IoT ecosystem. Non-members interested in this month's Roundtable, seats may be available here.

This month members review 8 startups and new products from across a wide spectrum of Internet connected technologies. Pitches and demos are punctuated with introduction, networking, and browsing demo tables.  See the Agenda for details on which technologies and product segments will be introduced on this agenda.

  • Startup Review Session: 4 young companies introduce their new technologies, products, and ideas to IoT Forum members
  • New Product Introductions: 3 established companies introduce new, ready-to-buy, IoT products and services
  • Customer Case Study: A fireside chat with an IoT solution company and their customer who talk about the deployment, the service, and how/why they work together.

After a morning of startup and product introductions, we dive into a discussion on Logistics over lunch with some invested guests and experts.

IIoT is the driving technology behind the Fourth Wave of the Industrial Revolution.

IIoT technologies, tracking, and connected things are blurring the lines between physical goods, processes, ERP systems, transportation, the cloud, and technology. Goods, devices, tools, people, and equipment can be tracked through the system, and managed and optimized to increase productivity, reduce waste, and increase profit. We've had the ability to track goods for some time now, but recent changes are enabling a number of new business cases:

  • the radical drops in device cost
  • better connectivity pricing
  • better radio technologies like NB-IoT, Wi-Fi.
  • better batteries

Because of these technologies we're seeing more horizontal-market, off-the-shelf logistics and tracking devices, and also better implementation of customized vertical solutions. In a world where hobbyists can track intercontinental container ships, the power of enterprises to know where their resources are, in real-time and at a very granular level, empowers them to:

  • Store less inventory
  • Have less spoilage
  • Reduce theft or losses
  • Reduce outages or stoppages
  • Optimize production, sales, costs, and profits

Our panel of logistics experts and industrial buyers will share their thoughts on how IoT re-invigorates the decades old field of ERP. Then, we will get their insight on what logistics buyers need - from sensors and monitoring to analytics and cloud services.

IoT Forum members meet monthly in Silicon Valley to discover new companies and technologies, meet partner prospects in person, review market opportunities across the wide spectrum of connected things, and deep dive into a specific segment with the help of buyers and experts. Meeting registration is included in IoT Forum membership.
