ABOUT THE MEETING TOPIC Throughout 2015, NFV progressed extremely quickly into the mainstream. It is a technology ripe for the times, with consensus among operators, vendors, and startups which all agree that virtualization will play a big role in networks of the future. Normally, we would expect the Gartner "trough of disillusionment" to occur after the hype, but it looks like NFV might escape that beating. On the other hand, some challenges are emerging from NFV implementations, and they largely involve the complexity caused by replacing dedicated hardware with virtual machines. The name of the challenge is MANO, or Management and Orchestration
MANO means the automated and deliberate organization of a NFV architecture. It involves when to spin up machines, on-boarding, package installation, lifecycle, authorizations, policy, and management of resources such as storage, processing, or network resources. MANO is what allows us to take NFV beyond a few simple trial VNFs to a core network technology.
Our MANO meeting will talk about telco MANO, challenges, solutions, products, and techniques. We'll learn how to take NFV from pilot projects to the future of telecom networks.
