The field of wearable companion smart devices is exploding. Dozens of providers are chasing into the space, led by startups like Pebble and Basis and innovators like Google's Glass team. With phones largely non-differentiated monoliths, differentiation in the device space seems to be taking place on the wrist, with each provider cobbling together different features, screens, connector, and functions. Because battery power is so limited, as is screen real estate, compromises must be made, and this is what is fueling the range of choices, none of which can be perfect.
For now, there are already a wide range of consumer options for wearables, mostly on the wrist. Early wins in fitness and health seem to be shifting towards smartphone companion with integrated fitness features. Consumers have indicated they will reject any sub 24-hour battery, or ugly watch, and still need to be convinced of the value of the product in the first place. Our wearables meeting will discuss the battle for the wrist, and the other wearable categories. We'll focus on consumer, and just touch on enterprise. Join us as we examine the latest crop from CES and MWC, and learn from leaders in the field.
