Carrier Perspective – Sprint
Mark Evans, Research Scientist, Sprint Advanced Analytics Lab
From a research project three years ago to large scale rollouts, Sprint is taking Big Data Analytics head-on. Using open source technologies, Sprint now has large scale analytics projects and proofs of concept being run across many parts of the enterprise (Network, care, finance, marketing, fraud, research etc) on a common infrastructure.
9:20 AM
Keynote: Churn 2.0: Act Fast or Fail
Ashish Gupta, VP Marketing at Actian
Unlike traditional churn analysis, big data analytics can better connect telcos with their customers and users, differentiate themselves from the competition, and develop and execute on key strategic initiatives. Churn analysis uses limited data to predict when customers are likely to leave for a competitor and cannot provide the level of insight available when analytics is applied to telecommunications, financial services, digital media, healthcare, or retail. The Actian solution transforms big data into business value through its capabilities of unlimited data and unconstrained analytics.
9:40 AM
Panel Discussion: Network Operators as Customers of Big Data Solutions
Telcos and service providers can be valuable channels for datacenters, big data, and analytics, but they are also massively complex operations in their own right, and a big target for the value proposition of Analytics. In this panel, we'll learn about some of the solutions that can help network operators leverage analytics to improve network performance, customer service, service delivery, and operations. What are the advantages when telcos gain additional insights? What changes when knowledge flips from overnight runs to real-time? How can businesses take that knowledge to the top line, and the bottom line?
Moderator: Liz Kerton, President at The Telecom Council
Ben Parker, Principal Technologist at Guavus
Marc Bensadoun, CEO at Newfield Wireless, a Tektronix Communications Company
Sameer Merchant, Vice President Commerce Services, Audience Network & Payment at Opera Mediaworks

Spectrum Briefing with CTIA's New Chief Executive
Meredith Attwell Baker, President & CEO, CTIA
Liz Kerton, President at The Telecom Council
Jon Metzler, President at Blue Field Strategies
CTIA-The Wireless Association is engaging with the innovators in both Silicon Valley and around the world to discuss how to ensure all companies may continue to create the best products and services to benefit consumers without unnecessary government regulation. The association represents the wireless ecosystem - from the network operators to device manufacturers to the content and app developers - before all levels of government to maintain a “light regulatory touch” so innovation and competition throughout the industry continues. Mrs. Baker joined CTIA on June 2, and joins us to discuss her priorities for the association, what’s happening in D.C. at the FCC and in Congress, and the association’s positions on topics including:
What Mobile Broadband Growth Means for Spectrum Demand
Why it’s licensed AND Unlicensed Spectrum Where and When New Bands, Re-Farming and Sharing Occur
What to Expect from the Spectrum Auctions
Why Wireless is Different and Needs Different Considerations with Net Neutrality
